In conjunction with the exhibition "Out of Hand: Materializing the Post Digital," the NYC DOT Urban Art System and the Museum of Arts and Style present Michael Rees’ sculpture "Converge: Ghraib Bag" in the pedestrian plaza on Broadway among 58th Street and Columbus Circle. The 17 foot sculpture was manufactured from a laptop file employing Computer Numerical Manage (CNC) machines and computer software from one frame in an animation. A video element, which depicts two sculptures interacting with one yet another, is accessible by means of a QR Tag reader free app.
"Out of Hand: Materializing the Post Digital," explores the 21st-century phenomenon of extraordinary creativity engendered by sophisticated approaches of personal computer-assisted production identified as digital fabrication.
